Email #14: PPC Marketing (Part I)

Dear <firstname> ,

Today we are going to cover a topic that has been
frequently talked about but hugely misunderstood:
Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing.

So what is PPC marketing? This is a system where
the advertiser (probably you) needs to pay the host
(probably google) when the ad is clicked.

For example, if a user visiting Google enters in the
search term affordable boxing gear, Google
automatically displays a listing of related sponsor
ads that run along the right side column of the search
results page.

So if you own an online martial arts store and you bid
for the keywords affordable boxing gear this
surfer will be directed to your site instantly.

So each time someone keys in affordable boxing gear,
Google ads would appear in the sponsored listings,
and depending on how much was bidden, my ad may
appear higher than others.

The amount you will pay for every click on your ad will
be dependent on many things, including how much you
intend to bid for exposure.

Example: You set a maximum bid as $.20 and the
competitor set his maximum bid at $.10, ultimately your
ad will appear higher than his in the column. But when a
visitor clicks on your ad, you could end up paying much
more than your competitor!

Your challenge in all this is to figure out what the best
placement is in order to maximize your advertising costs...
which will be covered in the next email.
